Juicing

  What is juicing?

Juicing is a diet imposed for a short period of time, consisting of naturally pressed juices. Because of the high volume content of nutrients, vitamins and minerals in fruits and vegetables, juicing them allows for an increased rate of consumption. The purpose of juicing is to deeply cleanse the digestive tract, while allowing naturally occurring processes to detox the body. Juicing is alleged to rid the body of toxins and procure a stable internal environment for weight loss.

How long should you juice?

Typically, juice cleanses can last for 1-2 weeks, but some last longer. It is encouraged that those aspiring to partake in juice cleanses understand the challenge that comes with only drinking liquid for the given amount of time they choose to cleanse.

Only juice?

Oftentimes, juices consumed during a cleanse are paired with other liquids, such as water, tea, plain black coffee, bone broth, as well as health- promoting supplements. This ensures that the juices are functioning at their full potential, and are in full effect. Failure to comply with the steps necessary to complete the cleanse can result in defective consumption of extra calories and sugar.

Health benefits to juicing

Increased nutrient intake - helps you get a larger intake of nutrients and vitamins because drinking juice helps your body absorb them quicker without any digestion involved.

Cardiovascular system support

possible benefits of drinking juice are that ingesting it leads to more nitric oxide in your blood, lowering your blood pressure and helping your vessels remain healthy and clean.

Risks of juicing

Calorie intake

an 8 ounce glass of juice generally contains about 100-180 calories, drinking too much of it can lead to high caloric intake and weight gain

Sugar intake

calories gained from drinking juice tend to come from the sugar - blood sugar levels rise once you drink a glass because of the amount of sugar in the juice.

No fiber and protein

Protein and fiber are beneficial to your body for your digestive health and many systems in your body - juice lacks these two things and therefore it is unwise to maintain a juice only or a juice heavy diet. the fiber is stripped from the juice because juicing extracts only the juice of the fruit rather than the beneficial things like the pulp (in most cases).

Juicing process

With a juicer:

Wash all your ingredients, remove their pits and skins, cut them into smaller pieces, juice them by putting them into the chute of the juicer and pressing down on it. this will extract the juice from the fruit.
