March 25th: The 6th Day of Mindfulness!

By: Madeleine Klopp

Yoga + Savasana

Today started out like everyday of Mindfulness, with yoga! This morning’s yoga lead by Dr. Reese really helped us to get us back into the swing of things after the weekend! For this session, Dr. Reese educated us on the chakras. We learned that chakras mean, “wheels”, and there are many of them. However, we only covered the main 7 chakras running from our head to our tail bone. She taught us the name of each chakra, each color they represented, each chakras root chakra word, what each chakra governs over, the vibration each chakra is on, and the mantras of each chakra. While we were meditating, we focused Dr. Reese also led us through another relaxing Savasana session, where afterwards she had to leave, where we started our next activity.

Reading

Last week, we had to pick a book out of the ones offered to us, read it and take notes on our book, and then have seminar. Last week we finished reading our books, so this week we switched to a book different from the one we read last week. For 15 minutes we’d read, then for 15 more we’d take notes in our journals, and then repeat this again until we were finished.

Sand Mandelas!

Today we practiced our sand Mandelas again! We followed two different tutorials for our practice. Soon we’ll be pairing in groups to do the actual sand Mandela with multiple colors, but for these practices each individual works on their Mandela with a single color we picked out. While making the Mandelas, we use different tools to help with symmetry and making the shapes. We’re given containers and contain lids to use for making circles, but sometimes we have to get creative with our materials and methods! Some students used their metta stone materials to carve in more details, others drew circles using plates to make guidelines for themselves. While making sand mandalas, students can stretch their creative muscles, and enjoy a relaxing experience!

Savasana Pt2

After our activities for the day, we had another Savasana session, this time lead by maestra. We listened to relaxing rain sounds while given a guided meditation, and with our blankets and eye pillows, we ended off the day with a great final activity!
